On some labor cards, the industry in which the civilian forced laborers were required to work was entered in this field. The words für gewerbliche Arbeitskräfte (for industrial workers), can be found on some cards, for example. However, this field was actually intended for the laborer’s ethnicity (“Volkszugehörigkeit”). In the case of Soviet civilian laborers, nationality was not broken down any further. A horizontal line was supposed to be entered in this space on their labor cards. However, there are also labor cards, like this one here, where sowjetrussische (Soviet-Russian) was entered in this field.
