Prisoners could be signed off sick or assigned to less physically strenuous labor details. On their sick bay cards, the prisoner’s diagnosis would be followed by the stamped date and number of days the prisoner did not have to work from that point on: 5T (5 Tage) stood for five days, 6T for six days, etc. If the abbreviation Schng (Schonung, “exemption”) also appears, it means that the prisoner was moved to a special “convalescence” room in the clinic where they were exempted from work. In addition, the abbreviation TS may indicate for how many days (Tage = T) the person was supposed to stay in exemption (Schonung = S).
