A variety of things can be listed in the nationality field, including “stateless” (Italian: apolide). A distinction was often made between Jews (Italian: ebreo, ebrea, ebraica) and non-Jews. The latter were usually referred to specifically as ariano or ariana (male or female “Aryan”). Some of the documents have designations such as inglese ariana or russa ariana, indicating a non-Jewish British woman and non-Jewish Russian woman. This additional information was intended to distinguish them from Jewish internees.
