Prisoners could be transferred to other camps or assigned to labor details. In order to track where a prisoner had been transported to, the date and location of transfers were noted in the Überstellt (“transferred”) field. This information clearly shows the prisoner’s path of persecution.
It is important to note that, in most cases, the name of a main camp was entered here, even if the prisoner was transferred directly to a sub-camp. Furthermore, in some cases, the information entered in this field only indicates changes to the organizational oversight of the camps. For example, Anna Morozowa remained in the same sub-camp, but its administration passed from Ravensbrück to Buchenwald in the summer of 1944. Other examples include the conversion of the Niederhagen-Wewelsburg and Mittelbau-Dora camps from sub-camps of Buchenwald into independent main camps.
