Former political prisoner Herbert Weiblich said after the war that the responsible prisoner functionaries in the Hollerith department of the labor assignment office sometimes used the cards for resistance purposes. He mentioned 800 to 1,000 Buchenwald prisoners who had been “reported as having been assigned in their profession[s]” (witness testimony/1.1.5.0/82066282/ITS Digital Archive, Arolsen Archives) and were thus saved from being transferred to labor details. He also said the department had sometimes delayed the process of compiling lists and documents.
