The number of family members accompanying a DP had to be noted in this field. The decisive factor here was that the family members had to be traveling with the DP. But particularly in the early days, this was rarely the case, which is why this field is often blank. What happened more often was that DPs got married and had children in the camps themselves. These “new” family members are often listed under “Remarks” in field 24 instead of this field.
