This field was intended for information on the organization through which a search request was sent to the CLI. Usually, an abbreviation of the organization's name was entered here. In this example, the request in question had reached the CLI via the Hebrew Sheltering and Immigrant Aid Society (HIAS). The date of the request was often not entered despite the column provided for this purpose.

In the event that the CLI received search requests for one and the same person via different organizations, there was space for information on several organizations.
However, this field was apparently also used by CLI staff to record cross-references to other index cards and the associated processes.
In this example, the note "C 2005 Julie Schnitzler" presumably refers to a search query for a Julie Schnitzler that had probably reached the CLI via the National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW).
