Section 13 of the “Decree on the Conditions of Deployment of Eastern Workers” of June 1942 states: “Eastern workers may save all or part of their wages thereby accruing interest; saved amounts shall be transferred to their native country and shall be available there to the saver or members of their family in accordance with more detailed regulations issued by the Reich Minister responsible for the occupied Eastern territories, or the Armed Forces High Command.” In practice, however, the money was used to finance the war effort.
