Staff at the International Tracing Service (ITS), the predecessor institution of the Arolsen Archives, changed the original elongated portrait format of the tracing office cards from Württemberg-Baden by folding and gluing them together in order to be able to sort them into the Central Name Index (CNI). The cards were not unfolded again when they were scanned from the 1990s onwards. Hence, the backs of these tracing office cards are shown upside down in the Arolsen Archives database.
