The Arolsen Archives have prisoner registration forms from the early Sachsenburg concentration camp, from Natzweiler camp, Groß-Rosen camp as well as from Dachau camp which heavily emphasize the prisoner’s physical and mental health, and even diseases among family members. These forms specifically ask whether the prisoner had prior convictions or had engaged in any other criminal activity, such as whether he or she had used narcotics. In many cases, the only part of these “prisoner examination forms” to have been preserved are the last three pages with the title “questionnaire for prisoners”. This is why they are sometimes incorrectly referred to as prisoner registration forms at the Arolsen Archives. These examination forms were not filled out by the Political Department, however, but by the respective SS camp doctors.
