A registration file was created for each prisoner, which included their prisoner registration form as well as their “protective custody” order. A birth certificate was included for unmarried prisoners, and a marriage certificate was included for married ones. These registration files were sorted by prisoner number and stored in the Political Department. From 1943, standardized file folders, like the one for Aleksander Takel, were also produced by the Auschwitz camp printing office. These files can be identified by the label Häftlingsakte (“prisoner file”) or the stamp Lagerstufe (“camp level”).
