In the main camps, labor assignment leaders were responsible for updating the Hollerith cards. In a memo from October 1944, the commandant of Natzweiler concentration camp issued instructions to the sub-camps that the “exact profession” of the prisoners should be recorded. Changes – such as transfers to another labor detail or the death of a prisoner – had to be reported weekly to the labor assignment leader in the main camp.
