Since 1949, the Special Registry Office (Sonderstandesamt) has registered the deaths of concentration camp prisoners whose death can be verified based on the documents in the ITS archive. To this day, the corresponding death certificates can be issued to public authorities or family members upon request. Until 2013, so-called yellow cards were filed in the Central Name Index when the Special Registry Office had officially confirmed a person’s death. If the ITS later received an inquiry about this person, the information could be accessed directly.
