Over the course of the years, the Fallingbostel DP camp became an IRO Resettlement Processing Centre. DPs from other camps in the British zone were sent there after they had been approved for emigration. The 14 Lithuanians, Poles and Latvians mentioned on this list had been chosen for the resettlement scheme for Canada. They were taken to Fallingbostel from camps in Lübeck, Eutin and Neustadt in October 1950 so that the next steps in the emigration process could be arranged. Maria Iwaszko (number 5 on the list) departed for Canada on November 29, 1950. She and her family therefore spent only a few weeks in Fallingbostel.
